Committees at the CDSC

Dear students, appreciated teachers and parents,

we, Naomi and Elias, your student representative team, would like to share a few words with you. The Student Council (SV) is an essential body of our school. It represents a significant tool to represent the interests and concerns of the student body. Therefore, it is crucial that the SV actively participates in school life and addresses the needs of the students.

This school year, it is our responsibility to be the voice of the student body, to listen to their suggestions and requests, and to seriously discuss them. We strongly believe in the importance of fostering a student body that actively participates in the democratic process and values the open exchange of opinions. We believe these values are critical to education and the development of a fair society.

The SV plays a crucial role in organizing events and holding SV meetings every two weeks. We will ensure that existing activities continue, but also make room for new ideas.

Only together can we make CDSC a school that is truly great for its students!

Education Quality Management at CDSC

All German schools abroad in the German Schools Abroad International Network are obligated to provide the highest standards of instruction and school quality. Across the globe, the ZfA (Central Agency for German Schools Abroad) supports German schools abroad in their efforts to fulfill this obligation. The ZfA systematically helps schools implement their goals for improvement as defined by their quality management plans.

The subsidizing federal and state-level agencies in the Federal Republic of Germany codified internationally recognized quality standards in November of 2006 (updated in 2019) in their publication, “Quality Standards of the Federal Republic of Germany and its States for German Schools Abroad.”

Additionally, schools are supported by facilitators. Within their respective regions, facilitators advise, aid and accompany schools throughout this process. They also track schools’ progress.

Steering Committee at CDSC

The steering committee is a body that aims to consult, coordinate, inform and cultivate ideas for all things related to school development.

The committee focuses primarily on instruction and lesson-plan development.

Members of the Steering Committee in the 2023/24 School Year

The composition of the steering committee should reflect that of the school community. Members were elected in their respective groups. Members of the steering committee are:

• Markus Brandtner (principal)
• David Nescholta (school board representative)
• Hauke Päs (elementary school)
• Kirsten Hoffmann (secondary school)
• Ralf Landmann (parent)
• Ian Janzen (student)

Tasks of the steering committee:

• Draft school development goals
• Coordinate Control of the school development processes, especially the activities of the working groups
• Organize and implement cyclical evaluations
  (self-evaluation, evaluation of others, inspection)
• Evaluation of the last federal-state inspection (BLI 3.0) and derivation of school development goals, as well as preparation for the next inspection
• Ensuring the flow of information for all persons involved in school development (school management, regular information for teacher and staff conferences, working groups, external consultants, etc.)
