Admissions Process

Children ages 3–6: kindergarten
– appropriate social behavior
– no knowledge of German necessary, but one parent must speak either English or German to allow for communication
– non-German speaking children should attend our kindergarten for at least 2 years before they transition to elementary school

Children ages 6–9: grades 1–4
– appropriate social behavior
– native fluency in German
– children coming from a non-German school system must take an admissions test (generally German and mathematics)

Children ages 10–12: grades 5–7
– appropriate social behavior
– German and mathematics skills on par with their grade; French as a second language may be required
– children coming from a non-German school system must take an admissions test (generally German, English and mathematics)
– non-German speaking children may register for our German Preparation Course; admission is only possible in the 5th grade

Children ages 12 and up: 8th grade and higher
– appropriate social behavior
– native fluency in German, both spoken and written
– French as a second language
– children coming from a non-German school system must take an admissions test (generally German, English and mathematics)
– in the 10th grade, admission via our Guest Student Program is possible
– admission to certificate-relevant grades is only possible via permission granted in advance by the German Standing Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs (KMK)

This first conversation with the principal, elementary school principal or kindergarten director is a great way for you to obtain information and for us to get to know you. We are also happy to give you a tour of our school grounds.

In the case of direct admission, you will receive all enrollment documents from us immediately following this appointment.

If German or other skills need to be assessed, they will be tested during this conversation. We will inform you of test results and our admissions decision shortly after the appointment by e-mail.

The following documents are required for admissions at CDSC:

  • completed admissions application
  • completed health form
  • copy of report cards for the previous two school years or all school years from the 5th grade on, if applicable
  • copy of child’s birth certificate
  • copies of the child’s and legal guardians’ passports
  • further documents upon request
  • signed supervision and schooling contract

Enrollment is concluded and binding once the admissions fee and deposit have been paid.
