After an exhausting Season 1, the U20 Girls Team faced an equally demanding “finale.” Heavy rain, puddles on nearly unplayable fields, and tough opponents made for plenty of excitement and drama.
In the U20 division, every team in the Chiang Mai Athletic Conference (CMAC) must face each other — every goal and every point counts. The top two teams automatically qualify for the semifinals, while the remaining two semifinal spots are decided in playoff matches. With 8 points, the U20 girls secured their place in the quarterfinals, which took place away against VCIS — a rematch from earlier in the season. Their first encounter had ended in a hard-fought 0–0 draw. This time, in the quarterfinal, the team delivered their best performance of the season, winning 1–0. A strong defense laid the foundation, while the offense created numerous scoring chances. The joy was immense — qualifying for the semifinals on Saturday, November 1, was a huge bonus and a reward for their effort.
That meant they were now among the top four teams. Waiting for them in the semifinals was the perennial powerhouse of the U20 division — GIS. The rain had turned the pitches into mud, and proper play was barely possible. In the first half, our girls fought bravely, but two unfortunate goals resulted in a 3–0 halftime score. In the second half, GIS found their rhythm and went on to a clear win.
It was time to move on quickly and refocus on the match for 3rd place, against CMIS. The game started with an early 0–1, but soon there were scoring opportunities on both sides. In the second half, our CDSC team clearly dominated. It was only a matter of time before the equalizer came. After several clear chances, the match should have been decided in regular time. Final score: 1–1.
Then came a penalty shootout that could not have been more dramatic. Three players stepped up for each side. CDSC had the upper hand again and again — an incredible six chances to win — but luck just wasn’t on our side. In the end, the team finished in a proud fourth place. The players were visibly disappointed, yet they can be truly proud of their fair play, fighting spirit, and consistency throughout the season. And we are proud of them, too. Players from sixth and seventh grade regularly supported the team, were integrated beautifully, and gained valuable experience — in the U20 division no less!
A heartfelt thank-you for your dedication, effort, and time. We’re already looking forward to what’s ahead.
See you in Season 3 — for U20 Futsal!
