On Thursday morning at 7:50 a.m., classes 6 and 7 of the Christian German School Chiang Mai (CDSC) set off on a special excursion: their destination was the CDSC school forest in Mon Jam, located on the slopes of the famous Doi Suthep mountain. Accompanied by teachers, the students made their way into nature.
The group traveled to Mon Jam in a total of four buses. However, the steep climbs proved challenging—one bus was unable to make it up the hill and had to find alternative routes. Despite this minor delay, the entire group arrived safely at their destination.
Once there, the students were warmly welcomed by representatives from Chiang Mai University. The university provides technical support and supervision for the CDSC school forest – an important project that combines ecological education with practical environmental work. With great enthusiasm and joy, the students, together with other volunteers, planted around 500 young trees. In the process, they not only learned about the regional flora and the structure of a natural forest, but also about sustainability, teamwork, and ecological responsibility.
After the work was done, a well-deserved, delicious lunch awaited the group – a nice end to a successful project day. At 1:00 p.m., the group began their return trip to Chiang Mai, filled with new impressions and a heightened awareness of the importance of environmental and climate protection.
The CDSC would like to thank Chiang Mai University for its support and all the students involved for their commitment to the school forest. This initiative is another step towards a greener school life and shows how school learning and practical nature conservation can go hand in hand, in line with the CDSC’s motto.
